FAQ

Where do I get F-Zero GX?

You need your own copy. Dump your own disc. We don’t distribute the game, link to copies, or help find them. Setup links to a guide for dumping a disc.

Which disc versions work?

F-Zero GX for GameCube, USA, game ID GFZE01, revision 0, as a plain .iso or .gcm image. RVZ, GCZ, WIA, CISO and NKit images aren’t accepted. The launcher checks your image on its first screen and says Verified, or what is wrong with it.

Is Piconet affiliated with Nintendo or Sega?

No. Piconet is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or Sega. It contains no game assets: the game’s files are made on your PC from your own disc image.

Do I need Dolphin or another emulator?

No. Piconet comes with its own program that runs F-Zero GX: the game’s code recompiled to run natively on Windows, using the files from your disc image.

Does it work on Mac, Linux, Steam Deck or other platforms?

Not at the moment. For now Piconet runs on Windows only.

What are the system requirements?

See the requirements. The processor must support AVX2.

How many players can race?

Up to 30 in one race. Lobbies can vote to fill empty seats with computer racers.

Can I race only with friends?

Custom lobbies aren’t available yet. Players on one local network can join a server there from Play, Local network.

What does rollback mean for my connection?

Your game doesn’t wait for the other players’ controls. It predicts them, and when their real controls arrive it corrects the race to match. A higher ping means more corrections, not a slower game. Every game in the race ends up exactly in step.

What ping is playable, and where are the servers?

Each race runs on one server, chosen for everyone in the lobby from nine regions: Ashburn, Chicago, Los Angeles, São Paulo, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney. A player above 250 ms to that server watches the race instead of racing it.

Which controllers work?

A keyboard, a gamepad, or GameCube controllers through a GameCube controller adapter. Calibration and button settings come from the game’s own controller options.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts. Other players see your name and a short tag, like NAME #4F2A. See Privacy for what is kept.

Where are my replays? Can I share them?

Every race and practice run is saved as a .fzrp file in the data\replays folder of your Piconet folder. Send the file to share it. Replays from every earlier version still play.

Do mods or balance sets work?

Servers can race on a stat pack: changed machine stats that every game in the race loads, such as the GX Unleashed rebalance. Other mods aren’t supported, since every player runs the same game. You can build your own machine in the Garage and race it online.

What if SmartScreen or my antivirus flags it?

Windows SmartScreen warns about programs it hasn’t seen often. Check the download’s SHA-256 on the download page, then choose More info, Run anyway.

Is the source code available?

Source is available upon request, and will be available on GitHub in the near future.

How do I report a bug?
